Sweeping Through Life

Friday Just another day at work. Since the hubby has been off since his recent surgery, it was nice to have him home on a Friday night. We ended up ordering Chinese food and watching a couple of movies on HBO. It was a nice way to end the week. Saturday Did some house work. In the evening we went to a wedding reception. The couple Alan and Iyanna, had a small ceremony at a local chapel and then had a small reception at their home. It was a quaint affair with lots of friends, food and drink. The food served was good and so was the cake. I always look forward to wedding cake. We were not able to stay long since, the hubby started to not feel well when the pain meds began to wear off. Sunday Went to church. My friend Bev decided to join me at my church this week. It was a nice service. Came home and cooked dinner. I really wanted some fried chicken. I must say, that I do not like frying chicken since I feel like every time I fry chicken it is not completely done. Since the hubby...

( Disclaimer: I am not writing this to upset anyone or discuss the differences in politics. I just wanted to get something off my mind) I hang a flag on the flag pole in the summer, but I would not call myself a flag waver. I am patriotic, for the way that we lived here in the United States. I appreciate the fact that I live in America. I admire those that serve in our armed services.  With all of that said, can we just enjoy those facts, instead of trying to make mountains out or mole hills with the recent operation that killed Osama Bin Laden. Truth be told, the news has said his name  more and recapped the horrible events of September 11, more this week than they have since anniversary of September 11 last year.  I am not saying that I understand everything that took place or sure if I want to even know all of the details.  For me it is a little concerning that so many people are questioning the who, what and when of what happened and to me it...

Here are this weeks Black History Month facts.... Black History Month began as "Negro History Week," which was created in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, a noted African American historian, scholar, educator, and publisher. It became a month-long celebration in 1976. The month of February was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. On February 12, 2009, the NAACP will mark its 100th anniversary. Spurred by growing racial violence in the early twentieth century, and particularly by race riots in Springfield Illinois in 1908, a group of African American leaders joined together to form a new permanent civil rights organization, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Febuary is Black History Month. Over the next few weeks, I will post a few black history facts every week. Here are this weeks facts....... Cathay Williams  was the first and only known female Buffalo Soldier. She was born into slavery and worked for the Union army during the Civil War. She posed as a man and enlisted as Williams Cathay in the 38th infantry in 1866. She was given a medical discharge in 1868. Judy W. Reed was the first African-American woman to receive a patent in 1884 for a hand-operated machine used to knead and roll dough. John Love invented the pencil sharpener in 1897. Black History Month originated in 1926 by Carter Godwin Woodson as Negro History Week. The month of February was chosen in honor of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, who were both born in that month.
