Happy Founders Day to the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc.  I wish you all well in your endeavors and am proud to be a member of such a great sorority. EE-Yip!

It's Founder's Day!!!

93 Years ago today my great sorority Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc . was established at Butler University by 7 school teachers.  Sigma Gamma Rho is the only African-American sorority established on an all-white campus.  I am so proud to be apart of this sorority and my alumnae chapter Delta Omicron Sigma . I know that some people think that sororities are just for college but we are still very active in our community in service, political and civic matters. I love the friendship, fellowship and service opportunities that I have through this organization. May we continue to live up to our motto  "Greater Service, Greater Progress".   Happy Founders Day!!

Why I Am A Sorority Girl?

As my godchild, niece or my other child or one of the other names that her mother and I have for her for her,   Allyson started her rush week at Bowling Green University, I began to feel the excitement for her and exploration of the process that she was going to undertake. It made me reminisce about my process and how I feel about my sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. Here are my 10 reasons that I am a sorority girl... Sisterhood -- I have built lifelong friendship with several of the members of my sorority. Many of these ladies were in my wedding and even one is my daughters godmother. These friendships I know will sustain the end of time and I know that these ladies will be there when I need them. Community Service --I have the opportunity to serve my community through my sorority on a larger scale and make a larger impact. With this network of great women and as this years community service chair, it has pushed me to look for different programming as well as more soph...

Today I am 9.........

My line sisters Lisa and Lynnette. 9 years ago today I was inducted in the most wonderful sorority in the world, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. with 2 other lovely ladies. I love the sorority today as much as I did when I was inducted. Happy Anniversary Trifecta ( our line name), with many more years of service and sisterhood to come.

Weekend Sweeps

On Friday ,  I  spent my day off, since it was Veteran's Day,  by going to the dentist, going to the OBGYN and looking at fabric for the baby's room with my mom. When I was out with my mom I found some good deals at Jo-Ann Fabric and Once Upon A Child. After having dinner with my mom, I went and visited with my friend Bev and Alena and met Alena's new baby Taylor. She was really cute and can sleep through anything. Before I got to sleepy, I headed home to bed. Saturday ,  attended my sorority chapter meeting and then went to church to have usher practice with my youth ushers. After all of my morning  meetings, I went to Babies R Us and started my baby registry. It was totally overwhelming and I do not think I scanned everything that I might need or want. I still need to research baby monitors and breast pumps. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. I came home was tired from the busy day, and made me a sandwich with some chips and plopped on the couch in ti...

Weekend Sweep and a Sweeping Hodgepodge

On Friday , I got off work and went and visited my little cousin Jisiah. He is so cute and I enjoyed my visited with him. After my visit I went home and quickly packed and hit the road to my sorority meeting. It was the first time that I stayed out in a hotel by myself out of town, and I must say that I do not liked it. Luckily if anything happened my husbands family was near by. . Saturday , I woke up earlier to get to my area meeting for my sorority were I was going to be presenting on our AIDS/HIV initiative. It was nice to see all of my sorority sisters for near and far and I really obtained some important information. After the meeting I went and visited with my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law before I got back on the road home. I got home in good time and was able to spend some time with the hubby before falling asleep on the couch. Sunday , started out as usual with attending church. After church, I went and did some grocery shopping. Once home I prepared Sunday dinner and al...

Weekend Sweeps

Friday Went to line dancing class. Came home and had a brief dinner and rested. I attended a wine sip with some of my friends and sorors. It was a relaxing environment and the conversation was great. After my little evening out, I came home and passed out to the Golden Girls (seems to be becoming a Friday night routine). Saturday Went to the early show of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. It was wonderful and just like the book. I wish she would write another book so that we can continue the story, but we'll see if J.K Rowling does. She just might surprise us. HP2 Went to the grocery store and did a little house work. Hubby and I ended up going to Chili's for dinner and had Graeter's Ice Cream for a little dessert. Love Chili's chicken poppers. The mint chocolate chip and chocolate chip cookie dough was so good. Sunday Went to church. My church celebrated our 89th church anniversary. It was a good service. My mom came over for dinner and the h...

Weekend Sweeps

Friday Work, work, work. After work I went to line dancing class. As if I was not tired enough, I was even more tired after class. It was a good tired and I needed a workout.  Went home and had a Stouffers pizza while I watched Say Yes to the Dress. I had to make myself go to bed, since I had an early morning on Saturday. Saturday Got up way to early for a Saturday and volunteered  with friends and sorority sisters at the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure. It is a lovely sight to see the sea of PINK   banning together for a cause. I look forward to it every year, even though I have to get up so early. As if getting up early, I was helping host my cousin Nicole's baby shower on Saturday evening, Let's just say that I must be a glutton for punishment. It was a nice shower, except for a few minor issues. She really enjoyed herself and her and her husband are pretty much set for their little bundle to arrive in July. Finally, got to go home and watch some mindless TV ...

Weekend Sweeps

Friday I took a "mental health day" from work and spent the whole day just chilling at home with the hubby. We watched lots of great TV and just vegged out on the couch. I made some yummy low fat cupcakes (will share the recipe before the end of the week). It was nice just to relax and not have to do anything. Saturday Did more of the same from Friday on Saturday morning. Attended a  Greek step-show with the hubby and some friends. It was held in the newly rebuild The Ohio State University Union . It was so nice and the building is alot nicer that when I was attending there. While at the show, I got the yummiest Brown Cow ( diet coke and vanilla ice cream) at Sloopy's . It was fun and I had a really enjoyable evening. After the show, I went home  and put my collard greens in the crock pot to cook all night for Sunday dinner and  then allowed the TV to watch me as I fell asleep. Sunday Had a good church service, after I locked my keys and purse in my car in the ...

Weekend Sweeps

Friday Had an eventful day at work, such as a client that I was supposed to visit was not where they were supposed to be. Great??!!. Stopped at a consignmnet shop and picked up a new Vera Bradley bookbag. Love it. It is one of 3 I have picked up in consignment shops over the past few months. It is the Kensington  pattern but the Miller bag style. I am new to this, so do you only collect on pattern at a time? Do you like Vera Bradley and if so what was your first bag. After a little retail therapy, I went to my line dancing class and worked up a sweat. I came home and enjoyed a nice long bath and some tv. Saturday Hubby and I went to my sorority's Jazz and Eggs event. The jazz band was very nice and the food was good. After having a good meal, I walked it off by going to Trader Joe's, Walgreens, Crate and Barrell. After seeing the savings of Jules at Chic and pink, I have started my own coupon collection. It works wonders for he budget when I went to Kroger.  Once ...

Weekend Sweeps: Sistercation and my birthday

This weekend I had my annual sorority regional conference. It started Thursday evening and last until Sunday. I spent the weekend going to meeting that updated me on the sorority's business, enjoyed learning new strolls, supporting our undergrads and had time to bond with my sorority sisters. I look forward to this weekend every year, especially seeing sorority sisters that I do not see all year and picking up some new sorority gear. Click here to see more. On Sunday it was my birthday and on the way home from the conference we went to Ikea and a local outlet mall and I picked up a few new items at Coach and Perfumania. We stopped at my mom's house to have some cake. It was nice having everyone sing happy birthday to me. Once I got home, the hubby took me out to dinner for my birthday. After dinner we came home and watched CSI Miami. What a relaxing day. I had a great weekend and I hope that you did too.

Weekend Sweeps

Friday Went and worked out with my friend Kim.  I needed it and it felt good after a busy week. Came home and did a little cleaning and fell asleep to the Golden Girls, as usual. I know not so exciting. Saturday Woke up early and ran a few errands. Attended the induction of the new soror into my sorority chapter, Angolique. Congratulations Angolique!!!  It was a  fun evening full of fellowship, laughter and sisterhood too bad when we were leaving we all go soaked from all the cold, blowing rain. I guess it was better than snow. After the all the fun with my sorority sisters, I came home and watch some TV with the hubby. Sunday It must have been all the ripping and running I did on Saturday, because I totally overslept for church.  When I woke up it was almost noon.  Was lazy around the house with hubby and watched TV and end up taking a 2 hour nap. I must of needed the rest. When we decided to get up we went to one of my favorite restaurants, El Vaq...

Weekend Sweeps

Friday I attended a Party Walk, a  dance competition between sorority and fraternities, with some of my sorority sisters. It was fun. I must say that I felt a little more "mature" than some of the people in the audience, especially when one of the guys did not know one of the songs that was being played from the movie School Daze . If you have not seen it, it is a must to watch. Saturday Started the day with the hubby making me some breakfast. It was really sweet of him. I guess I was half sleep when he asked me how I wanted my eggs, but when he called my name from the kitchen I was surprised. We ate breakfast together and caught up on some DVR shows. After my fill breakfast, I went to the gym with my friend Kim and had a good work out I needed it after breakfast. Had a little girl time with my mom. Went and did a little shopping. She purchased a yummy chocolate covered apple from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and I got one of the their chocolate cover pretzels wit...

Weekend Sweeps

Friday Hubby and I went to the couples bowling event at Rue 63 with my church. It was their Valentine's Day outing. It was so much fun. I got see some of the older couples in my church in a different light, they were fun. There were a couple of couples bowling in our lane who had been married 64 and 23 years. That was impressive and inspiring. It was great to see how they interacted with one another after all of those years.  We were so tired and sore from 3 games of bowling, we immediately came home and went to bed. I thought that I was going to go to sleep when coming home, but I ended up watching Purple Rain until 1:00am. Saturday Had a sorority meeting and then had an activitiy at church. Did a little consignment shop shopping with my mom after we went to get some heart shaped cream filled donuts from Jolly Pirate. At teh consignment shops, I was looking for a few things for my upcoming sorority conference as well as my new obsession with obtaining a Vera Bradl...

The Last 30 Days of Me

I thought it was time to catch you up on what I have been doing the past 30 days.... Hung out all weekend with my sorority sisters at the annual NPHC weekend, which included a party walk competition in which my sorors of Sigma Gamma Rho won and picnic the following day. Hubby and I had our annual 4th of July party. We had a blast with our friends. Food and fun happened. I went with a red, white and blue theme, from red, white and blue popcorn, chocolate covered pretzels and red baked beans. Went to see the movie Eclipse. Loved it. TiVo and watched the movie, My Sister's Keeper and cried all through it. Our garden is growing well, except for a little issue from our neighborhood rabbit having a few snacks. We have actually have eaten cucumbers and some broccoli from the garden. I just can not wait for the tomatoes to be ready. Went to a National Black MBA association social with my gal pal Bev. We had fun, had some good drinks, nice cake and lovely conversation, but so...

Sistercation

I am going to my yearly, regional sorority conference this weekend. I am taking a little "Sistercation" (sisters + vacation=sistercation). It is going to be nice to have some time with sorors  (sorority sisters) relaxing, exploring a new city and taking care of the work of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. I am exited to see the founding place of our sorority and see some of the sorority sisters that I only see once a year. I hope that you have a great weekend. P.S. I am kinda bummed that I can not do the "Fill in the Blanks" Friday this week, but I will make sure that I do it next week.
