MLK Day+ Party =Honor?

I was listening to the radio while driving on my way home and heard a commercial for a party at a local club to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day this weekend. The first thing that came out f my mouth was ,"What?".  Who thought of this? Is this a good way to honor his memory? I might not have such a problem with it if they have persons attending the event bring a can good or a portion of the profits went to a local charity. How is this party celebrating Dr. King and all of his work?  It seems to me that, someone just made up a reason to have a party. I think that there are other ways to honor Dr. King, like volunteering, marching a local MLK walk or attending one of the many Dr. King programs in your city. I am not sure Dr. King would be happy with people tipping a bottle in honor of him. Maybe I am over reacting, but I find it kinda of rude and disrespectful. Maybe I am just being sensitive, but I do not like it one bit. Whatever way you decide to honor Dr. King this weekend, please remember all of  his work,  his struggles and his accomplishments. Have a good weekend!!

Ha! I have a dream...to shake my tail this weekend. You're right, it seems to be in poor taste...just another reason to try to make some money.
Just found your blog. :)

I agree--I think that's weird. It's one thing to celebrate something in a meaningful way, but to just, like, use MLK as an excuse to make money off clubbing seems tacky. Lame.

Thanks for finding my blog and stopping by. How did you find it? I am glad that I am not the only one who thinks having a party on MLK Day is just a money maker and not away to honor him.

Love, Marriage and then a _______________

Love, marriage and then a baby carriage. I am preggers. I am 15 weeks pregnant. I know that it is not fall along, but I wanted to share our blessing on my blog. We are very excited about the little one, that we are currently calling Baby J. I have not had much sickness. I have had periods of nausea, but it is not consistent. I have noticed that my body is changing, as it should. I just guess that I was not expecting my body to change that quick.  As my friend, Bev says, " Your growing a life. What do you expect?" She is right. Really, I do not know what to expect. It will be quite a little journey as another part of me sweeping through  life.
