Red, White and J's

Mr. J and I are known for our annual New Year's Eve and 4th of July parties. It seems like each year we have to make the next one better than the last. I am excited about this years 4th of July party because the weather is suppose to be great, Mr. J has the yard looking great and we got some new deck furniture (with all the of the Target gift cards we got for the wedding, thank you). I am now trying to decide what to serve. I ask everyone to bring something of course, but I can not decide what I am going to make. Here are some of my thoughts: dump cake baked beans coconut cake mac and cheese Do you have any suggestions? My husband is the grill master so he will be in charge of the grill for the hot dogs, brats, hamburgers and ribs. All he ask for me to do it to make by famous barbecue sauce (which I learned from my momma). Of course, there will be some spirits flowing especially, my famous mango margaritas and one of my favorite drinks strawberries and cream. The 4th is always f

Music Monday-- New Edition

New Edition was one of my favorite groups growing up. I still listen to their music and have most of their albums. I went to one of their concerts last year with a few girlfriends and caught an attitude with people sitting in front of me, because they did not know all the words to the songs and the dance moves. Not true fans. Their music just makes you want to dance and be happy. Have a happy Monday .

Michael

It is official....I am old. You become old when the icons that you grow up with start to pass away. Well, the King of Pop is gone. I remember when my mom and aunt took my cousin and I to see Michael Jackson and his brothers on the Torture Tour . It was a great concert. I was dressed in my black pleather pants, pink shirt, my red Beat-It jacket, my silver socks, black penny loafers and silver glove. You could not tell me that I did not look like him. At that time I had a Jeri curl in my hair so I styled it like Michael Jackson in Billie Jean (one of my favorite Mikey songs). I was close enough to see him. It was great. I think I stood up and danced on the chair the whole concert. Thriller was the best album ever. I had to get two copies because when I first heard the song Thriller , I scratched it because I got scared. Still got the album, might have to pull it out this weekend. I was a huge Michael Jackson fan growing up. I had posters all over my bedroom walls, had buttons of him al

Things I Need to Do......

There a lot of things I need to get done, but I admit I am a procrastinator. I seem to work well under pressure. With all the lovely weather that we are having, all I want to do is sit on the deck with a book or taking a walk with a friend. I need to buckle down and get somethings done. I have created a list on the side of the blog for my family, friends and blogger buddies to keep me on task. I will be updating the list via posting updates and crossing things off my list. Wish me luck..I want to have most of this done before the end of summer. I am hopeful aren't I.

Are You are a Southern Belle?

I have found a new show...like I need another show to TiVo. The Southern Belles of Louisville that comes on The Soap Network. It kinda reminds me of a single version of Housewives of New York. I think that this show is more relatable to me, since the ladies are close in age to me. Check it out. This show is going to be TiVo along with some of my other new summer favorites like "The Little Couple" and "Cake Boss". I have also started watching"Jon and Kate plus 8". I think that I am just doing this to be a little nosey, since they have been in the news so much lately. What are you watching this summer, if anything? Hopefully I will be able to catch up with some of my TiVo shows this weekend between volunteering at my communities annual Juneteeth Celebration and trying to get my home office organized(wish me luck with this one). Have a great weekend.

My Husbands Obsession

Kinda sounds like a Lifetime TV movie. My husband enjoys working on cars, fixing things and his new obsession.....our yard. He has always cared about how our lawn looks, but now it has grown to flowers and plants. It started with hosta plants. He was so in to them that I started calling him "Hosta Man" as a joke. He has now moved to vegetables ( which I am looking forward to eating), a butterfly garden and several different shaped plots of land with various plants in them in my backyard. He is constantly looking up things about mulch and organic gardening. Before he just TiVo car shows, but he has moved on to recording landscaping and gardening shows, like " Yard Crashers " and " Gardening by the Yard ". I came home the other day and he had dust all over him and I asked what he was doing and he stated," Just drilling a hole in some rock for the water feature." Mr. J and one of the neighbors (who also has a nice yard) talk often about what to use

Music Monday -- Salt -n- Pepa

I remember when I got this tape, yes I said tape, not cd. I had saved up my allowance to buy it. I did not have it long, because when my mom heard this song, she came in my room and took the tape. Not only did she take the tape but when she took it out of my stereo, the tape got caught in the player as she pulled. What a waste of money.

NPHC Weekend

I have been tired all week from the past weekend. It was Alumni Chapter National Pan-Hellenic Council Greek Unity Weekend. There were all sorts of activities planned from a community service to a picnic. Well, I am a sorority girl at heart and anytime, well most of the time, that I spend sometime with my sorors it is a good time. I have been practicing for weeks for a party- stroll (if you have seen Stomp the Yard or School Daze you know what I am talking about). I really need to remember that I am in my thirties and not my twenties any more. I am still sore this week from all the practice and the show. Unfortunately, on Saturday , the judges ( who do not know good taste, when they see it) scored us 5 points below the next team. So we lost...what a bummer. I won't lie, I was so pissed that I needed to leave before I said some choice words. ( I am in the middle getting ready to get my stroll on) After the party stroll, there was an after party at a local club. I have not really be

Can not believe that it has been two months. Time does fly by.

Selling Popcorn---The act of standing by and doing nothing to effect or change events but attracting attention to the event itself none the less. I know alot of people selling popcorn. They should really be full. (Found here )

Things that Make You Say......What!!??

29 year old man has 21 children. When I heard this I was trying to figure out how this was even possible. I guess anything is possible now a days. What were these women thinking? I know what they are thinking now..."How is $2.50 a week going to help me with my child?" $2.50 a week is what each child is eligible for after the state of Tennessee takes half of the fathers pay. I am for a loss of words about this. No, I am not..this is pure craziness. What do you think?

Word Wednesday

Hater--A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success or happiness. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person. (definition found here ) Please do not be a hater. It just makes you look bad.

Please Stand By.....

I am hitting panic. I only have about 2 weeks left, before my office TV turns to snow. My television is a little desk one that also has a radio, that has no converter box or cable hooked up to it. I listen to Dr. Phil, Ellen and some of the Today show. I used to watch the judge shows, like Judge Joe Brown and The People's Court, but the channel that these shows come on switched to digital on the original date. What am I going to do without watching my Young and the Restless during my lunch hour. I am currently looking for a new TV or radio that picks up the TV stations. If anyone knows where I can get one of these please, please, please let me know. I do not think that me bring in my 20 in. TV with a converter box would be appropriate for work. I just I should get use to the radio...and just TiVo my shows.

Music Monday -- Rhianna

Here is the first of many songs that I am adding to my soundtrack. Every Monday you will get a new one. I was listening to this song one day on my I-Pod at work and I guess I was sing it so loud that a co-worker later told me that she could hear me through my office door. I still like Rhianna as an artist, regardless of what is going on in her personal life. Enjoy and happy Monday.
